My Offerings to God

Leah DiPascal

Day: 7 | Plan: Numbers

Today's Reading: Numbers 7

Numbers 7:11 (NIV) “For the LORD had said to Moses, ‘Each day one leader is to bring his offering for the dedication of the altar.’”

After the tabernacle was completed, Moses anointed and consecrated the altar, all the furnishing and utensils before the Lord.

A chosen leader from each tribe was instructed to bring gifts to the Lord, which totaled six wagons and 12 oxen. These gifts were to be used by the Levites to help them transport the tabernacle and its holy contents.

For 12 consecutive days these same leaders brought additional gifts and offerings for the dedication of the altar. Each tribe brought exactly the same gifts, which held a specific purpose. And God assigned each tribe to present their gifts and offerings in the exact same order as He arranged them to march and camp around the tabernacle. (Numbers 2:3-31)

These gifts and offerings for the dedication of the altar totaled 12 silver plates and 12 silver bowls filled with fine flour and oil, 12 gold dishes filled with incense, 12 young bulls, 12 rams, 12 male lambs a year old, 12 male goats, 24 oxen, 60 rams, 60 male goats and 60 male lambs a year old.

Not only were these gifts and offerings a display of Israel’s unity in worshiping God, but they also showed each tribe’s committed support of the tabernacle and the priesthood that would oversee every responsibility for the tabernacle.

After the gifts were given and the altar was anointed, Moses entered the tent of meeting where the Lord spoke with him. (Numbers 7:89)

As believers, what kinds of gifts and offerings can we bring to God?

We can give Him our genuine love. (Luke 10:27)

We can give Him our complete trust. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

We can give Him our faithful service. (Colossians 3:23-24)

We can give Him our bodies. (Romans 12:1)

We can give Him our praise and worship. (Hebrews 13:15)

The greatest gift we can give to God is ourselves. And because of the finished work of Christ on the cross, we are now living offerings made holy by Him and pleasing to God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I give my life to You. My time, talents, weaknesses, abilities, hopes, dreams, future … they’re all Yours. Shape my heart to be generous in giving to You. Teach me how to give lavishly and present my life as an offering to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
