God Is On Our Side

Day: 11 | Plan: Joshua-Judges

Today’s Reading: Joshua 11

Joshua 11:23 (NIV) “So Joshua took the entire land, just as the LORD had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.

I have a weak stomach when it comes to conflict. Watching an action-packed movie is never on my wish list. So reading Joshua 11 can be a little intense for a gal like me. After all, burning chariots, hamstringing horses and slaying soldiers are not found in romantic comedies.

But we’re not talking about movies today. This is real-life drama unfolding from the pages of God’s Word and I don’t want us to close our eyes and miss out on a single scene—no matter how intense it gets.

In today’s reading the Israelites would face a massive enemy alliance that was preparing to annihilate them. (Joshua 11:1-3) Scripture describes it as “a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore” (Joshua 11:4b). Have you ever considered counting sand on the seashore? Me neither, but imagine each grain of sand as an enemy warrior waiting and ready to attack you.

Sometimes life can feel that way—as if circumstances or people are strategically stacked against us in some sort of unfair alliance. And when the odds seem overwhelming, victory sure can appear impossible.

Well, not according to God’s plan: “The LORD said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid of them, because by this time tomorrow I will hand all of them, slain, over to Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots’” (Joshua 11:6a).

God was promising a victory for the Israelites as long as Joshua trusted and followed His instructions. Faith and obedience would be like a woven sheath holding an invisible, double-edged sword that God would use to slay the daunting enemy. Triumph was theirs for the taking. (Joshua 11:14-15)

Are you facing tough challenges or insurmountable circumstances? Does the enemy appear massive and overpowering? Do you feel as though the problems of life are unfairly stacking up against you?

Well, God wants to give you victory in every area of your life. Not just partial victory—complete victory! And He has the power to do it. So will you trust and follow His instructions so He can lead you to blessed success?

You were designed to invade the impossible areas of life and experience total victory through Christ. Remember, no matter how attacked you feel today—Christ is always, always on your side. He is fighting for you.

God offers His Word as flawless instructions to follow, which will position you as an overcomer in any situation. He will help you walk in confidence as He goes before you in triumphant procession before your enemies.

No battle you face is bigger than God. No enemy you wrestle can defeat Christ’s finished work on the cross. Trust God. Obey Him. Follow His lead. For He is your Mighty Warrior and the battle belongs to Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Your Word reminds me that I never have to face my enemies alone. No matter what obstacle I encounter or battle I try to fight, You are with me. You go before me and prepare a path to victory. Even when the odds seem insurmountable, I can trust You. Help me see past my struggles and remember You have already prepared a beautiful inheritance and season of blessed rest for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
