Melissa Spoelstra

For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. - Jeremiah 2

I remember being at church camp as a teenager and hearing the speaker tell a story of a little girl with a fake pearl necklace.

But this command I gave them: 'Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you. - Jeremiah 7

It's hard to admit I have areas in my life that resemble the Israelites in today's text: obedience in some areas, but simultaneous disobedience in others, and hope placed in religious activities.

Turning toward Wisdom

Lyli Dunbar

Thus says the Lᴏʀᴅ: 'Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lᴏʀᴅ who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lᴏʀᴅ.' - Jeremiah 8-9

I find it hard to watch the news these days. There are so many heartbreaking stories of pain and violence.
