There is No One Like Our God

Day: 34 | Plan: Deuteronomy

Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 33

Deuteronomy 33:26 (NIV) “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.

If you knew this was your last week on earth, what would you do?

Would you draw those you love close by your side, speaking words of blessing and encouragement? Or would you praise God with your final breath?

In Deuteronomy 33, we find the last recorded words of Moses, and learn he did both.

Moses’ final words are teeming with blessing, truth and wisdom. These words cast a vision for the future—a future full of hope and assurance for the people of God. These words are rich in prayer and bursting with praise.

That’s not all. Moses uses his final words to proclaim God’s attributes to the people. So let’s break it down and see what we can learn about God from Moses’ words.

Right from the beginning of the chapter, Moses recounts the glorious appearances of God, demonstrating He is ever-present with His people. No matter where we’ve been or where we are headed, God is with us. (Deuteronomy 33:2) Let that truth settle in your soul.

God loves His people. (Deuteronomy 33:3) He came from heaven to dwell with us, and His love and tender care for us is personal and intimate. We are His beloved, and He draws us close. We are held safely and securely between His shoulders and He surrounds us with His love. (Deuteronomy 33:12)

He is the King of Jeshurun, the King of Israel. (Deuteronomy 33:5) And He is our King. He is the high King of heaven. The sovereign Lord, who rules and reigns over all people and places and things. Nothing is outside the realm of His supreme authority.

He is the Eternal God—from everlasting to everlasting He is God—He knows no bounds. His people find refuge and hope in Him. He is the only reliable source of safety and security of sustenance and satisfaction. He is our shelter, our hiding place and He bears us with everlasting arms. He is our defender and the one who defeats and destroys every enemy. (Deuteronomy 33:27-28)

He saves us and shields us. He is the sword of our triumph and gives us success over our enemies. (Deuteronomy 33:29) Nothing can stop Him or hold Him back. He rides through the heavens to help His people. How majestic and excellent is His name! (Deuteronomy 33:26)

Is it any wonder Moses proclaims, “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in His majesty” (Deuteronomy 33:26).

What would your final words be? We can try to script a sermon or final message, but I suspect when our time comes we will find our final words will be similar to words that filled our days.

Moses’ final message is filled with truths he lived out, praises that had long been on his lips. What message is on your lips today? If these were your final words, what would they say about you and the God you love?

Prayer: Lord God, You alone are worthy of our highest praise. There is no one like You! I praise You for who You are, and I thank You for Your continued presence and help in my life. Today I pray that my words will be teeming with Your praises and filled with truth that automatically points others to You. May the message of my lips reveal my deep love for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
