Jesus Thought of You
He was with God in the beginning. - John 1
Something so beautifully striking holds my attention with this verse. Jesus was there during the creation of the world!
His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you.' - John 2
I hesitate to be honest in my prayers. Do you?
Cleansing the Temple
To those who sold doves he said, 'Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a market!' - John 2
Have you ever felt a sudden sense of shame or sadness over some activity, relationship or choice in your life? I have.
Wanting What You Have
He must become greater; I must become less. - John 3
John the Baptist was not just Jesus’ cousin, his sole purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus.
Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.' - John 4
Imagine drinking water and never becoming thirsty again.
Take a Step Off Your Mat
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, 'Do you want to get well?' - John 5
My encounter with an armed masked man propelled me into a prison of paralyzing fear.
The Christian Checklist
Jesus answered, 'The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.' - John 6
It’s really easy to reduce our Christianity to a label, a lingo and a lifestyle. We have our Christian checklist:
Jesus' brothers said to him, 'Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. - John 7
At the beginning of John 7, the Feast of Tabernacles is approaching. Jesus’ brothers try to pressure Him into going on up to the Feast so He can show everyone the works He had been doing in Galilee.
You Are Invited!
... Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. - John 7
Jesus had been teaching at the Feast of Tabernacles all week. This was like a big campout where everyone built shelters to celebrate and remember God’s faithfulness in the wilderness.
Caught In the Act
They made her stand before the group. - John 8
In our media driven, instant message society, news stretches from continent to continent faster than we can read the words in this sentence. Our actions, good and bad, are known instantly.
The “Eyes” Have It
He replied, 'Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!' - John 9
The Pharisees, the religious leaders of the day, were always trying to get ammunition on Jesus that would allow them to discredit Him at best, vilify Him at worst.
Do You Know The Shepherd's Voice?
... The sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. - John 10
Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd. Why would Jesus invite us to call Him by that name?
Experience the Power
... Jesus said to them, 'Take off the grave clothes and let him go.' - John 11
The people around Jesus had seen Him do miracles. They had seen Him turn water into wine, open the eyes of the blind, multiply a boy’s lunch to feed thousands and many other wondrous things.
The Fragrance of Worship
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet - John 12
Mary of Bethany is a beautiful role model for every believer. We can learn so much from her memorable interactions with Jesus.
Living in the Light
I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. - John 12
Jesus is the light of the world and in Him there is no darkness. Jesus came into this world to save us by bringing people out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God.
Follow the Leader
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. - John 13
I remember a childhood song I used to sing: We’re following the leader, the leader, the leader. We’re following the leader wherever he may go.
Jesus Is the Way, the Truth and the Life
Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?' Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' - John 14
Have you ever felt like Thomas—knowing just enough information to keep you inching forward, but not quite sure the direction you’re headed is right? With Jesus, we don’t have to wonder or worry.
The Vine and the Branches
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into - John 15
Jesus taught His disciples how to be fruitful. Abundantly fruitful. Using the illustration of a vine and its branches, He explained that to be fruitful, the disciples must stay connected to Him, like branches to a vine.
The Way to Remain
If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love. - John 15
Ah, the thought of remaining in God’s love! You have to admit there’s a certain wooing in the message of this great verse.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. - John 16
In this verse, Jesus is speaking to His disciples about the Holy Spirit. Jesus had already told them He would be leaving soon to return to the Father in heaven.
Jesus’ Prayer for You
... That they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. - John 17
I treasure reading about the last moments of Jesus life with His friends in the Upper Room. But at the same time, my heart aches.
Lessons from the Olive Tree
When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it. - John 18
Jesus often met in the shadow and shade of the olive tree. The garden mentioned in today’s key verse is the Garden of Gethsemane.

“It is finished.” Three words splitting time and eternity.
The Resurrected Jesus Appears
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. - John 20
The main message of John’s Gospel is that Jesus is God. John has written this book so that people would be moved to believe in Jesus.
Who Do You Love More?
... Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?' - John 21
Peter was an enthusiastic disciple who loved Jesus and followed Him with great loyalty. But when Jesus was arrested and the problems became a matter of life and death, Peter denied being one of His followers.
