More Moments About 1 Samuel 11
Because Saul demonstrated leadership qualities (in the victory against King Nahash and the Ammonites) Samuel decided to officially renew his kingship in Gilgal:
“So all the people went to Gilgal and made Saul king in the presence of the LORD. There they sacrificed fellowship offerings before the LORD, and Saul and all the Israelites held a great celebration” (1 Samuel 11:15).
This would be the first and by far the most joyful meeting held in Gilgal for Saul. Scripture records three meetings in all at this location with Samuel and Saul. Unfortunately, the other two didn’t go so well.
In the days ahead, we will read eye-opening details about those encounters. Be on the lookout for how Saul’s thinking and reactions begin to change and why.
Major Moment: Saul is renewed as king because of his victory at Jabesh.
